An Igbosere Magistrate’s Court sitting at the Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos Island, Lagos has sentenced a 33-year-old man, Sunday Mbanu to one year and six months imprisonment for stealing one generator battery valued at N200,000 belonging to the First Bank of Nigeria, FBN Headquarters at Marina Street, Lagos.

Mbanu was jailed by Magistrate, Mrs Gbajumo Ayoku after he was found guilty of the one count charge preferred against him by the Police at the Lion Building Division, Lagos Island, Lagos and the facts of the case presented before the court by the Police Prosecuting Counsel, Inspector Hafsat Ajibode.

Ajibode had told the Court that Mbanu’s journey to jail started on 17 May when he sneaked inside the generator room of the bank to steal the generator battery valued at N200,000 unknown to him that the CCTV cameras mounted in the bank had captured him.

Ajibode stated that nemesis, however, caught up with him when he returned to the bank’s generator room to steal more items, the vigilant security men on duty identified him through the picture from the CCTV cameras and apprehended him.

A distress call was thereafter sent to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of the Lion building division, Lagos Island who despatch her men to the scene to arrest the convict.

She said the offence Mbanu committed was punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Magistrate Gbajumo Ayoku, therefore, found him guilty of stealing during the trial of the case and sentenced him without an option of a fine.
