Liverpool have reportedly agreed to a £60million deal to sign Southampton’s Romeo Lavia.

Jürgen Klopp is desperate to strengthen his midfield after losing the race to sign Moisés Caicedo from Brighton, who is joining Chelsea for a British record fee of £115m.

The Belgium international still has four years left to run on his deal with Southampton, but a summer exit is seen as inevitable, assuming that an interested party meets his £50m price tag.

Over the weekend, it was suggested that Liverpool were prepared to up their offer to £55m in an attempt to land the Belgian starlet, but according to The Guardian, the Reds have instead lodged a £60m bid.

Southampton accepted the offer from their Merseyside counterparts, who had previously refused to break the £45m barrier, but the midfielder’s proposed move to Anfield is still far from a formality.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are also hoping to hijack Liverpool’s move for Lavia, who was apparently the subject of a £55m offer from Chelsea last week.
